Rescue Story

September 21, 2010

Jacob is a Holstein cross steer who was found collapsed under a bush by the side of the road in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He was estimated to be only one day old. He was probably separated from his mother at a dairy farm hours after being born, and was on his way to to be sold as veal and fell off the truck.

Jacob was lucky. He was picked up by Animal Control and within a month found permament peaceful refuge at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary.

Poplar Spring reports that up to a quarter of its rescued cows are ones who have apparently fallen off trucks on their way to veal auctions. The space between the bars holding in the animals is wide enough so that some slip through. If they’re found in time by the right people, that can turn out to be a blessing.
