Female calves are sometimes turned into veal

On dairy farms, if the number of female calves exceeds that needed to replace the herd members who are killed each year, and cannot be sold to other farms, they are considered worthless excess by dairies and may be sold to be turned into veal. Half the calves born to cows on dairy farms are female, dairy cows are impregnated just about every year, and the number of cows in many countries’ dairy industries has been shrinking the last few years, creating an overage of female calves. So it is not only males who are turned into veal or killed as babies by the dairy industry.
